The winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, “Ribbon” caps off a decade of eclectic winners of that prize, and ones that have varied substantially in terms of box office. The nine released winners have totaled $165.8 million at the North American box office, a whopping $119.2 (or 72%) of which came from Michael Moore’s 2004 winner “Fahrenheit 9/11.” Other than “9/11,” the only Palme d’Or winner to gross over $10 million in North America is Roman Polanski’s “The Pianist,” which – buoyed by Oscars for best director and best actor – took in $32.6 million back in 2002.
